Oh Short stories....my least favorite genre. I read this book out of social media pressure. It was EVERYWHERE. So I thought, I am in need for a feel good read and decided to go for this book.

Nearly all the men in Lagos are mad is a collection of short stories written (mostly) from the POV of loving and likeable, sometimes innocent women who have been cheated or abused by men. It depicts forms of betrayals, broken trusts, omitted truths in relationships. There were few stories written from the man's POV however the message still remained the same - nearly all the men in Lagos are mad.

I am tired of Lagos men. Nearly all of them are mad. Awon weyrey.

First of all, the title of the book is catchy however the stories alternate between both sexes POV and that what makes it interesting. Still, I think it would have banged more if the title was Nearly everyone in Lagos is mad because that is the absolute truth (LOL).

Secondly, which is another reason why I am not a fan of short stories, some of the stories ended flat. It needed more depth and more (for lack of a better word) finesse. It is possible to get to the end of a story and ask yourself "Is that all" while kissing your teeth.

The writing is very "Nigerian" which makes it very interesting. It is really easy and relatable and reads like a persons journal entry.

To be very honest, in as much as I am not a big fan of short stories, if you want to have a laugh or just an eye-roll moment, then I strongly recommend this book.

Verdict

I won't be reading short stories anytime soon though; it is really unfair to my brain. If you like short stories then please go ahead. You won't regret it.
