“In every story there is a hero and a villain. Sometimes one person can be both”
It took a whole minute to write this review as I was stuck in a spiral questionable rut of “what do I make of this ending?”. I remember completing the book and two days after I would catch myself lost in thought about how the book turned out to be. I questioned if I liked it to if did not like it at all. It was a battle of likes in my brain.
Now to the book…
Jar of hearts is a truly riveting twisted murder unexpected novel with victims who seem so innocent yet covered with guilt. For every page turned, allowed a mixture of empathy and guilt with each of the characters. Like how do you feel bad for someone who is in jail for a crime they committed? Exactly. The writing was flawless. I would like to add that you need to keep your eyes open because what you read is not what it seems. Do not be fooled by any alphabet within this book.
The story starts at a court room where Georgina Shaw, a successful businesswoman engaged to a wealthy man, is being sentenced to prison time for being an accomplice to murder of her best friend which happened 14 years ago. Her ex-boyfriend Calvin was the identified murderer. So it took 14 years to actually find out that Georgina Shaw and Calvin killed Angela?
Yes..
The remaining chapters of the book unravel the past events that came about the murderer, who was lying and who was telling the truth. So yes, it is totally worth the read and completely entertaining.
HOWEVER.....
The ending was rushed in my opinion. I think that was why I was in such a rut. There was so much buildup, excitement, and anticipation from the previous chapters for it to have such an ending.
Characters
I had no favorite character. They all had darkness of some sort which added more flesh and bones to the book. The characters were a true example of “do not judge a book by its cover”.
Verdict
If you are in search of a book that would keep you at the edge of your seat and make you gulp down imaginary popcorn swiftly without blinking, then please be my guest.
