Genre: Psychology Thriller
Rating: 3/5
When you are creating your own fictional world, you can make everything happen exactly how you want it to...
I am really on a Freida roll because I enjoy a good psychological thriller novel and I hope one day I will write mine.
How do I start this review. First of all The Wife Upstairs reads like a re-write of Verity by Colleen Hoover but it might seem unfair since I am not sure who released their book first. Still, they both read somewhat alike.
Now lets get to the crux of this review...What the seven heavens is going on with characters acting like they are not smart. See I do understand why Sylvia has to take up this job offer seven hundred hours away from civilization because she broke but I believe that if she was smart and saved up enough money she could have quit and moved out. I mean Adam was paying her generously and she kept going on about how she felt uneasy in the house. But yeah that doesn't happen. Rather she sleeps with her boss.
Ok couple red flags for me in this book.
First day or probably first week on the job, Victoria gives you her journal to read. Her personal journal to READ. To a complete unheard of stranger. I mean...HOW NOW???
Then the journal shows how abusive Adam is to Victoria and literally finds out the "truth" about Adam but no our darling angel of a lady does not leave. She is a HERO!
Victoria is such a strong independent woman, why did that journal paint her like she has nothing going on for her. I really like Victoria, then slowly I disliked her cowardice to stand up for herself
Why didn't Sylvia leave with Drew the ambulance guy. When I got to this part, I just lost it but I was almost at the end so I decided to complete the book. I remember saying to myself "This babe is so stupid"
See at first I wrote in my Kindle notes, "Plot twist: Victoria is the true villain and not Adam". Then Freida attempted to prove me right but then twisted it to prove me wrong. I liked the twist. I just disliked the stupidity
And how did I forget Maggie. Honestly I did not even pay her any attention till I got close to the end when she called Sylvia and had some weird conversation with her spiting her against Victoria. And to find out the real Casanova truth about Adam later.
FREDDYYYY just miraculously showed up. Like he drove three hours in the snowstorm and was there right on time....ughhh.
See ehn, this book stressed me and I decided I am on a break from Freida.
Characters
NONE. No character stood out for me. Maybe Adam but I tend to dislike perfect individuals. They are usually sociopaths.
Verdict
I am going to say F for eF-fort.
